Lisa Ankeny

I feel as if we all live in a world that is out of touch with what is truly important in life. Family, love, happiness, beauty and life itself are all distorted by our digital, wireless society. We live in a place where we will never have enough. Our society can recognize more corporate logos than plant species. One out of every four people in North America can be diagnosed with a mental disorder and we are the only ones to have problems with both obesity and eating disorders. Media controls our knowledge, thoughts, beliefs, ideas and habits. We spend more money on fast food than higher education and most of us are working jobs that fulfill the dreams of others and not our own. Everything seems backwards and I feel the need to change and consume less.Art is the reason I can smile through all of this. It is my chance to voice my frustrations and express my thoughts, hopes and dreams. It’s how I reconnect and find balance. In other words, it’s my therapy. With a style all her own, Lisa creates deep, passionate works of art and puts a fresh and intriguing light on it all. She uses a multitude of mediums ranging from acrylics, to cattle markers. The end product is full of depth, both mentally and physically. The most inspiring work is found in her journals. There you will see the characteristic “Lady Lisa K” style. Take a look at the artwork at sumiredesign.com/artwork.htm for a taste of raw vision.Lisa’s background in art stems from her childhood, and tends to run in the family. Her grandfather was a master calligrapher in Japan, and her uncle has his own graphic design studio in Denver, Colorado. She has received a Bachelors Degree of Fine Art from Montana State University, majoring in Painting and minoring in Ceramics. Following University, she furthered her education by obtaining a Web Design Certificate through Sessions School of Art and Design. Most recently Lisa has started her own design company based out of Pemberton, BC called Sumire (soo-mi-ray) Design. From her studio she provides artistic, web and graphic services!
